Arizona Day 5!

Warning: This is going to be an extremely long post. I only used half the pictures and I think there is 84. I may have to cut it down again.

So Sunday dawned even more sunny and beautiful than Saturday. We loaded up early and headed off to Sedona!! It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! This was a much different view than the last time I went with Grandma and Grandpa to Jerome and Sedona. We loaded the side by sides and trailered them up there.

Silly fun early in the morning.

We had to make a pit stop as everyone finally woke up about half way there. Jenny’s husband Emmett, his brother JD and his family joined us today!

The rigs and most of the crew. We continued on and I basically stared as the scenery changed. It was very green up here, lots of grass and wide open pastures, even cattle! I loved the look of the green grass and then a cactus.

The sun coming up over the hills. The whole way there you are basically climbing. It’s slow but it’s noticeable in your ears. Phoenix sits at 1086 feet above sea level, while Sedona is at 4500 feet above see level.

Unloaded and loaded up ready to go. I am giddy.

Street legal! We could drive right through town in these.

20170326_092301
Then we got off the streets and the fun began.

20170326_092316
The trails were amazing and surprisingly narrow.

Up lots of steep hills.

And finally Chase struck a pose!

The kids had so much fun running and stretching their legs.

I am amazed at the plants growing just out of the rock.

JD went down the big hill. Our riders (not including me or Emmett) didn’t want to try it.

Long way down. Thankful the brakes worked.

This is a map of all the trails in the area. Due to time constraints we could not even come close to doing them all. We start on and all the pictures before this were on the Broken Arrow Trail. Next we headed all the way up to the top of the map to Slide Rock State Park. After that we went we went on Soldier Pass Trail.

Chase and Jay. Cousin love!

Slide Rock. Apparently you go up by where those people are standing and jump off the ledge across the river from them and them float down. JD’s wife Emily did once but it was too high and too chilly today.
20170326_114934
The building across the river is the bathroom. There is normally a bridge across it but the water was high and you couldn’t see it today.

Next we headed out to Soldiers Pass trail.

The crew.
20170326_125616
This was so cool! Except when I found out I was standing directly over nothing. Thanks Emmett!
20170326_125509
It was a little unsettling standing at the edge of this.

These two pictures are taken just a few steps from each other. See how far back underneath it has broken away?

This was a beautiful place.

This is called 7 holes. There is a small crick that runs at times through here and was worn these 7 deep holes out. Over that cliff is 4 more.
20170326_130813
They were fairly deep at places.
20170326_130851
A couple were small but these are the big ones.

Another stop on the way. Just totally beautiful.

20170326_140514
And finally…food! This was an awesome place to eat. Mexican, BBQ, and breakfast all day! Fits us all!

So that was that for Sedona. We loaded up and headed back to Buckeye to relax a little before going to watch Emmett play slow pitch and I got to meet a bunch of Jenny’s good friends. It was a great way to end a perfect day spent with wonderful people. I can’t thank Emmett enough for taking the time to take us up and ride with us. Our days are dwindling in Arizona. But we were so tired tonight all we could think about was bed.

  1. We’ve done this off-roading in Sedona too and loved it. The scenery 🙂 Did you pose for a picture where it looks like you’ve fallen and are clinging to the edge of a cliff. We did, we were told this is customary 🙂
