Still learning

When we baled hay when we were kids, Dad usually had a couple neighborhood guys that worked for him that loaded while Dad was in the hay mow. We unloaded a lot of hay. We never were on the rack loading. Then Brother grew up and took over rack duty. Then Big Nephew grew up and he got rack duty when Brother went to the mow. Over the last couple years, they have both been teaching me to stack the rack. I am sort of getting it. I still probably haven’t stacked 1/8 of the bales Big Nephew has. I am just guessing that I haven’t even come close to 1/100 of the bales Brother has stacked.

The other day I got to try something a little different. Moving hay from the field we were baling in on racks would have slowed us down, a lot. So Brother brought his two flatbed trailers and I got to stack the hay from the rack onto the trailers. The first one was a little shaky.

This one we had to take 14 bales off the back that were bowed out and not going to make it home. But SIL, who also has stacked a few bales, figured out a way for most of them to make it. She also should me where I went wrong. See at the front how the bales lean away from the front of the trailer? They needed to lean forward.

The second trailer was much better. It leaned forward the way it was supposed to and traveled home fine.

I get pretty frustrated not knowing things. But I am constantly learning and getting better. By the time little nephew takes over I might almost have it down!
